Position Summary:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES :The Career & Life Design Advisor works as part of a team of career services professionals assisting a diverse student body in the process of developing, evaluating, and initiating career plans for students from all levels including first-year, transfer, graduate students, and alumni. This advisor will work with all students but will also serve as a liaison to a particular career industry providing cutting-edge job and internship search strategies and relevant career information to students and alumni within this career community. Utilizing a counseling and life design approach to build rapport, the Career & Life Design Advisor will see the student as unique and provide individualized support and resources that align with their needs and the associated career community. This position will also contribute to employer engagement initiatives by communicating opportunities directly to students within the assigned career community and coordinating opportunities on and off campus for students to connect with employers in the assigned field. SUPERVISION RECEIVED :Reports to the Associate Director, Internships & Career Development.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED : Student Workers, Graduate Assistants, Clerical and Support Staff.
This position is located on campus in Bridgewater, MA. This position is eligible for hybrid/remote work in accordance with BSU’s remote work policy. **Some evening/weekend hours and business travel may be required for this position.
This is an APA position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties:
CORE DUTIES : 1. Assist with the professional and career development of undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni through career exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and planning. Focus efforts on resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation and skill development, networking strategies including LinkedIn, and the job and internship search process through advising appointments. 2. Develop and present workshops on career development topics such as choosing a major, resumes and cover letters, internships, interviewing, networking, job search, life design, and graduate school planning. 3. Using principles of Life Design, support undergraduate and graduate students in imagining and designing meaningful lives and careers through early discovery, ongoing exploration, and skill development. 4. Stay up to date with employment industry trends, job requirements, hiring practices, and salaries to be able to effectively advise students. 5. Communicate regularly with students interested in the assigned career community/industry sectors by engaging with students through meaningful touchpoints and cultivating a comprehensive integrated advisement system. 6. Identify opportunities to create relevant and targeted career programming in the assigned career community by working closely with internal and external partners including employers and campus departments. 7. Assist with event planning and coordination of customized career programming for students within the assigned career community through programs such as panels, info sessions, networking events, industry career fairs, and webinars. 8. Promote career events and opportunities for students within the assigned career community by developing weekly communications such as newsletters using the Handshake portal. 9. Support timely communications with Faculty Internship Coordinators within the assigned career community to ensure a cohesive process for sharing career information with students and faculty. 10. Attend industry events representing Bridgewater State University and the office to gather employment trends and career opportunities for students and alumni in the career community. 11. Maintain and create content for department webpages and resources 12. Perform duties assigned by the senior management team in the office and support the ongoing data collection, assessment, and divisional initiatives particularly for the assigned career community. 13. Provide support for the day-to-day management of the Career Services & Internships Office. Represent the office at divisional and university meetings and events as needed. Participate in various campus wide events, serve on various committees and search committees as assigned. 14. Work collaboratively to develop career readiness programs for all students to address inequities in access and inclusion. 15. Plan and implement assessment efforts that inform data driven decision making for programs and activities. 16. Develop and implement intentional programs, services, and activities within your core duties that will meet the unique needs of ALL student populations. Some evening and weekend hours will be required of this position.
